Character Development Workspace: QUIET CALM*

Careful observation, meticulous accuracy, remembers facts and details and uses them to help others. Works hard, but behind the scenes. Traditional, stable, structured, orderly world. Focus on one idea at a time, present, neither future nor theoretical. Best one-on-one. Private, quiet workspace, limited interactions. Values harmony. Lacks flexibility, spontaneity. Generous to a fault; loves to be of service. Demands little from others, takes responsibility for their inadequacies.

* - Probably needs a new name.

ISFJ

A careful observer who notices and remembers details, he/she puts together a puzzle based upon facts, then helps other people understand what he/she has learned. A behind-the-scenes worker, he/she adheres to rules, procedures, practicalities, and gets work done, one project at a time. Well-organized. Requires a private work space to concentrate for long periods of time without interruption. Prefers stability and structure to assure the best results. This combination of precision and a need to help others is unique to this personality. Very self-contained, but very warm-hearted.

Potential Areas of Conflict

As a rule, does not engage in conflict with others. When considering possibilities, the logical mind is quick to rule out ideas without a clear practical justification. Needs to learn to ask “why not?” instead of thinking, “that won’t work!” Better if friends who can think more broadly are in the room. Too conventional. Misses things that are unusual, often dismissing the path too early in the process. Not very assertive. Knows what he/she knows, but won’t press his/her opinions on others. The facts speak for themselves. The enthusiasm, which is honest, may not be seen on the surface. Be flexible. Don’t get discouraged—not everything is personal! Be spontaneous!
