Privacy Policy

Independence Media (“IM”) is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information that you provide to us when using this website (“Site”).

This Privacy Policy describes how IM treats personal information received about you when you visit or subscribe to IM, i.e., how IM collects information, what we do with it, and what controls you have over this process. IM is committed to ensuring the privacy of your personally identifiable information and to protecting your ability to transmit your personal data with the confidence that it will be secure as you make financial transactions with IM for membership and other purposes.
We hope that you will read our Privacy Policy carefully; if you have any questions or concerns about it, do not hesitate to contact us at feedback@mindtv.org.  Also, if you visit sites linked to IM, we suggest that you review the privacy policy associated with each such site to determine how that site protects your privacy.

If you are under the age of 18, please do not provide this information. IM does not knowingly collect personal information from users under age 18, and requires users supplying this information to affirm that they are age 18 or older.

Information Collected by IM

When you sign up for a membership, and at other times, IM will collect personally identifiable information from you that may include your name, age, address, e-mail address, credit card number and facts about your computer, profession, interests, and similar information. IM will not willfully disclose any personally identifiable information about you to any third party without first receiving your permission, unless required by law to do so.  You should recognize that under certain circumstances, if you choose not to voluntarily submit requested information, you may not be able to engage in certain activities — e.g., using certain features on the IM website(s).

IM Site Usage Information

IM automatically collects IP addresses and IM site usage information from you when you visit its sites and when you view video streams. This information helps IM evaluate how its visitors and subscribers use and navigate IM on an aggregate basis, including the number and frequency of visitors for each video program.

Consumer Research

IM may monitor your use of its service (such as your session time and click-stream data), and use or disclose to partners, market researchers and other third parties any such information gathered in the aggregate or in clusters as part of its evaluation and operation of the services IM makes available. In its sole discretion, IM may develop and use consumer research which may be based on your use of such services. All marketing information shall be subject, in all cases, to compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, as the same may be amended from time to time. No personally identifiable information will be shared or is linked to consumer research.

Demographic Information

IM collects anonymous demographic information (such as your zip code, gender and age), and may use this data to tailor your IM experience, provide content that IM believes you might be interested in, and display the content according to your preferences. Such demographic information may be shared with partners, market researchers and other third parties on an aggregate, non-personally identifiable basis. No personally identifiable information will be linked to aggregated demographic information.

E-mail Addresses

IM maintains customer databases with e-mail addresses of viewers, listeners and members, visitors to the IM website who have provided them to IM by registering at IM site, audience members who e-mail questions about membership or programs, donors who submit online membership contributions (that is, make an online pledge), and online buyers who make a purchase. We will use these addresses to send information about IM programs, web sites, services, membership or to correspond about a purchase or offers.

IM does not sell, exchange, or lend e-mail addresses to outside companies, organizations, or individuals. IM always will provide a clear and convenient method of unsubscribing to our e-mailings. In order to unsubscribe to our e-mail messaging, merely follow the unsubscribe directions included in every e-mail message we send. We will update our records as soon as possible. If you have already unsubscribed from IM e-mails, rest assured that we will continue to honor your request.

How IM Uses Collected Information

IM may use information in the following ways:
    •    For the purposes for which you specifically provided the information including, for example, to enable us to process, validate and verify membership information.
    •    To send you e-mail notifications about our new or existing services, and offers, or to otherwise contact you.
    •    To enhance existing IM features or develop new features, services, and programs.
    •    To provide content providers, advertisers, partners, market researchers and other third parties with aggregate information (including demographic information) about our user and viewer base and usage and viewership patterns.
    •    To allow IM to personalize the content and marketing/ promotional endeavors that you and others see based on personal characteristics or preferences of our subscribers/visitors.
    •    IM may share parts of your information that it has collected from you to ensure that you do not receive duplicate product service announcements and/or offers.

Except as specifically set forth in this Privacy Policy, IM will not share your personally identifiable information outside of IM unless you “opt in” to having your personally identifiable information shared with a company that is not affiliated with IM.

IM may disclose and use personally identifiable information in special circumstances where it is necessary to enforce its Member Agreement (or, for example, when necessary to protect intellectual property rights, or rights granted to IM by third parties). IM also may disclose or use your personal information when IM, in good faith, believes that the law requires IM to do so.

Opting Out

From time to time, IM sends emails to subscribers and site visitors regarding specific programs and/or marketing promotions. You may choose not to receive these programming, marketing and promotional emails by clicking the unsubscribe link on any of the messages.

Cookies

IM employs “cookie” technology to help visitors and subscribers move faster through our site. When you set up a subscription, or visit channels, or view programs, or use other site features, IM may pass cookies to your computer. A cookie is a small file that is sent to your computer by a site’s server; it is a string of information that is sent by the Site and stored on your hard drive or temporarily in your computer’s memory. A cookie can be a record of your visit to a site, including information such as your user name, registration information, time of last visit, pages viewed, etc. A cookie created by one site’s servers can be retrieved only by that site’s servers. Thus, information in IM cookies is not accessible to other sites. IM uses cookies to confirm your account information; to provide you with favorite channel or program information; and to support personalized settings. At any time, you may choose to clear any and all cookies from your hard drive.

As an alternative to cookies, IM may pass user information in connection with account information, viewed pages, and/or viewed video files within URLs or other computer code. Unique identifiers, without any personal information, are sometimes passed between servers within the IM network.

Security

The personally identifiable information IM collects about you, including your credit card information, is stored in limited access, secure servers. IM  will maintain state of the art safeguards to protect the security of these servers and your personally identifiable information which you transmit from your computer to our server. To protect the security of subscribers’ credit card information, IM employs industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. IM also encrypts your credit card number when IM stores your order and whenever IM transfers that information to participating merchants. In addition, all user information is stored in a secure location behind a firewall with limited administrative access.  Your credit card information is used only for your intended purpose — that is, for membership, additional submissions of video programs and for special promotions.

Policy Modifications
IM may change this Privacy Policy from time to time in its sole discretion. IM will post any changes here. Be sure to check this page and read it from time to time.
