Learning from Others
For the past few years, we've been on a journey through cognitive science, adult learning, the structure and purpose of formal education, the popularity of informal education, and the impact of media.
We began our exploration of media influences on adult learning at The Paley Center, reviewing kinescopes of "That Was the Week That Was," a provocative BBC, then NBC, series that combined political and social commentary with humor, often through sketch comedy and musical numbers. The tradition continues with "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," and, for an international outlook, "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."
Reviewing the origins of Sesame Street, we found both inspiration and a practical model.
We're grateful to 100+ education and media professionals who helped us to define and refine our understanding of learning, social responsibility, the role of humor, the media and more.
As a rule, we have found books more useful than the internet, so we recommend some of the best titles.
Thanks for learning with us.
