INTJ
Lives to develop solutions, improve existing systems, innovate bold new ideas, makes novel connections between dissimilar ideas. Logical, reasonable, analytical, orderly. Conscientious and detail oriented (detail lover). Constantly seeking new information, and bolting it on to what is already known, often to concoct a novel conclusion. Requires autonomy and control, routinely granted because few others can deal with the world at this level of concept (high) or detail (low). Superior capacity for synthesizing information.
(A lot less so) MBTI Description (ENTJ): Natural leader, loves to be in charge. Spends time inventing and perfecting systems to make things that much better. Appreciates a good schedule, sticks to it. Naturally perceives big picture, able to develop the long-term plan, and to solve problems in clever ways. Wants to be stimulated, naturally curious, enjoys interacting with others who want to change the world. Moves toward the spotlight, appreciates the acknowledgement, wants the emotional and financial compensation due. Sets goals for others, supervises them, but doesn’t deal with their small personal issues. Superior networker, solid entrepreneur, can play at senior levels.
Potential Areas of Conflict
May be stubborn, unwilling to suffer fools (or those who have not done their homework). May be sharply critical, but rarely intends criticism as personal. Not especially diplomatic. Doesn’t always succeed in communicating innovative ideas, or persuading others to see things her way. Perceived to be condescending, arrogant. Can be inflexible, and closed-minded, especially when the facts, patterns and connections are clear in his own mind. Changing his mind is not easy to do—once changed, it’s difficult to change again.
(A lot less so) Potential Areas of Conflict (ENTJ):
Pushy. Aggressive. Annoying. Seems to be everywhere, won’t leave anything alone. Possesses a very high opinion of herself that may not be shared by all. May completely miss what others see so clearly, especially in the area of personal needs, so her name may reveal a personal conflict.
Brief Description: The ultimate clear thinker. Relies upon research, reason and process, often without the vaguest perception of interpersonal or group dynamics. Nobody’s fool, Snap enjoys critical and creative challenges. Snap is smart, logical, efficient, focused, rational. Loves details because they lead to the big picture. He is more INTJ than ENTJ, but making an effort in E direction.
Purpose: Snap’s purpose is to explain complicated ideas through facts, patterns and stories anyone can understand. He reads a lot, explores, watches, probes, figures things out, talks to the well-informed and the not-so-well informed, learns from everyone. He attempts to live by two famous Einstein quotes: “Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them," and, "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
Gender/Heritage: Parents and grandparents traveled the world. Men were writers; women were teachers, professors. Reading books by (The Rational Optimist), and House of Lords member Matt Ridley helped us to conceive this character. Snap’s real first name is Mwanafundi, which (aptly) means student in Swahili, but he’s been called Snap since he was an infant. Now, he wonders which name he prefers, and he thinks a lot about that.
Physical Description: No certain expectations the appearance of the actor who will portray Snap, but fluid movement and visibly discernible active listening will be important. Graceful, powerful, athletic. If Rena becomes a Hispanic woman or Asian woman, Snap becomes a Black male, probably aged 40 or so. With Snap, we are interested in breaking stereotype.
Psychological: Extraordinary ability to collect, synthesize and repackage information as knowledge. Men in Snap’s family live inside their heads. Sometimes, Snap seems heartless or insensitive, but he’s extremely well-informed, and prefers candor and historical accuracy to the softness of social sensitivity. He is complete, but he is not whole. His slow movement from INTJ to ENTJ will open possibilities, but not at the start, and not along a smooth, effortless path. The performer’s own personality will help us to pave this way.
Fears: Snap sees logical explanations, doesn’t generally buy into fear. Snap can't understand fear in others. Fear is a wasted emotion—if what you fear doesn't come true, you wasted energy, if it does come true, you wasted prep time.
Social: Snap’s third favorite Einstein quote, “Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.” Snap will strike out against the unreasonable and the ridiculous; he’s armed with facts and knowledge, details, insights, overview, trends, everything necessary to win an argument. Deep down, he is being helpful: when Snap corrects someone, or takes them apart, it’s all good (except that he has no idea of wreckage left behind).
Key Relationships: Quant is the obvious buddy, but Snap easily interacts with all of the characters, and with visitors and experts. Even Quant is sometimes taken aback by how insensitive Snap can be.
Place in Cafe: No fixed position. Often joins a group. Tends to take over so that the right ideas are being discussed in the right way.
0-to-60: He’s close to zero when explaining, even to those who struggle to understand. As for those who refuse to understand, refuse to take the time to think, read, discuss, consider options, Snap cycles through progressively smaller increments. Never irrational, but anyone who intentionally presents obstacles to learning—especially when others are trying to understand—will experience Snap’s withering wit, and the force of his directed energy. Also: Snap hates it when he’s thinking and someone interrupts him with something unimportant.
