ISFJ
A careful observer who notices and remembers details, Moonlight puts together a puzzle based upon facts, then helps others understand what he has learned. A behind-the-scenes worker, he adheres to rules, procedures, practicalities, and gets work done, one project at a time. Well-organized. Requires a private work space to concentrate for long periods of time without interruption. Prefers stability and structure to assure the best results. This combination of precision and a need to help others is unique to this personality. Very self-contained, but very warm-hearted. No surprise that people with these characteristics are so often involved in health care, social work, religion, and education.
Potential Areas of Conflict
As a rule, does not engage in conflict with others. When considering possibilities, the logical mind is quick to rule out ideas without a clear practical justification. Springs from the conventional. Won’t press his opinions on others except under special circumstances. Honest enthusiasm may not be visible on the surface (but when performing in a song, the reservation melts away).
Brief description: Careful observation, meticulous accuracy, remembers facts and details, uses them to help others. Works behind the scenes. Resides in a traditional, stable, structured, orderly world. Focuses on one idea at a time, lives mostly in the present, apprehends the past but not the future, and certainly not the theoretical. Best one-on-one. Private, quiet space, limited interactions. Values harmony. Lacks flexibility and spontaneity. Loves to be of service; generous to a fault. Demands little from others, takes responsibility for their inadequacies. Doesn’t deal well with dishonesty or tomfoolery. Mostly, Moonlight is powerful listener. He plays an important aspirational role.
Purpose: A clear-minded soul whose personal vision is elegantly constructed and eloquently articulated. Encyclopedic mind allows Moonlight to connect people with ideas through clear and simple expression during generous one-on-one conversations. He has an enormous heart, and happily joins in with group activities. Reluctant to take the stage alone, or to press someone in a provocative interview, but his joy in conversing with great minds takes precedence over any personal reservations, so some interviews and interactions naturally go to Moonlight.
Gender/Heritage: Extraordinary thinker with a deep soul. His job is to think and to speak plainly. A blend of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson by way of Moonlight Graham (Burt Lancaster in Field of Dreams:). Connected to philosophers and an internal world of priests, mystics, monks, muftis and rabbis, great legal minds including Louis Brandeis and Oliver Wendell Holmes, and theologians such as Thomas Merton. Probably older than the others.
Physical Description: We're flexible, but the little guy with the long mustache is mighty appealing. So is Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Psychological: Self effacing—it’s about the ideas, not about me. Humble, honorable, rarely calling attention to himself, but absolutely perfect in his diagnosis and handling of others’ concerns. Takes responsibility for others' inadequacies.
Fears: Moonlight has come to terms with who he is, and fear isn’t a factor, except in special situations.
Social: Moonlight’s ability to focus on the essence reminds us of a country doctor.
Key Relationships: Long, deep connection to friends, family and anyone else who requires care and consideration.
Place in Cafe: Remembers everything, but that’s never the point. His value is wisdom. Does not offer opinions, except when they're ready to be expressed at the proper moment with exquisitely simple language. He does not spout opinions. Moonlight strongly prefers watching and listening to talking and kibitzing. No need to occupy center stage—unless that’s what is required in order to get the job done. Side table.
0-to-60: Moonlight is not easily upset. He’s seen it all, and he’s fine with the odd behavior that most humans consider to be normal. Just don’t be caught lying, or constructing a situation he would classify as tomfoolery. Nobody is a more articulate in his witty, seemingly kind-hearted treatment of liars and jerks. Of course, the perpetrator may not be in the cafe—Moonlight will heartily engage when provoked.
